INGREDIENTS
- 2 large Yellow onion , thinly sliced into half moons and rings
- 1 cup Buttermilk
- 1 cup All-purpose flour
- To taste Salt
- To taste Black pepper, freshly ground
- For frying Vegetable oil
- To taste Salt
METHOD
- In a medium bowl, soak onions in buttermilk for 10 minutes. In a separate bowl, add flour, salt and black pepper. Whisk to combine.
- Working in batches, grab onions with tongs. Shake off excess buttermilk then toss onions in flour mixture until fully coated. Set aside and repeat with remaining onions.
- In a large pot over medium heat, add vegetable oil until approximately 3 cm / 1" high and heat. When oil is shimmering, gradually add onions. Fry until golden, about 2 minutes.
- Transfer onions onto a paper towel-lined plate to drain. Season with additional salt. Serve.
