Crispy Onions

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 large Yellow onion , thinly sliced into half moons and rings
  • 1 cup Buttermilk
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • To taste Salt
  • To taste Black pepper, freshly ground
  • For frying Vegetable oil
  • To taste Salt

METHOD

  • In a medium bowl, soak onions in buttermilk for 10 minutes. In a separate bowl, add flour, salt and black pepper. Whisk to combine.
  • Working in batches, grab onions with tongs. Shake off excess buttermilk then toss onions in flour mixture until fully coated. Set aside and repeat with remaining onions.
  • In a large pot over medium heat, add vegetable oil until approximately 3 cm / 1" high and heat. When oil is shimmering, gradually add onions. Fry until golden, about 2 minutes.
  • Transfer onions onto a paper towel-lined plate to drain. Season with additional salt. Serve.
